Three-dimensional simulation of diffraction and absorption losses in all-fiber multilayer filters

A rigorous modal 3-dimension calculation method is used to analyse the diffraction and absorption losses in FP (Fabry-Pérot) multi-layer interferential filters between both singlemode input and output fibres. This method allows an ordinary personal computer to calculate accurately as well the absorption losses so as the diffraction into the cladding modes of both fibres and the reflectance into the input fibre. The calculation results show that absorption losses and diffraction are troublesome for high finesse FP.
