Prédication et emphase en anglais : le rôle de la prosodie

Abstract : The links between prosody and syntax are well-known but they remain difficult to define clearly. It is admitted that emphasis can be manifested only prosodically. But what happens at the prosodic level when the emphasis is syntactic ? The notion of predication reveals helpful in the acoustic analysis of different syntactic structures of focalisation - such as extrapositions, cleft sentences or emphatic do - and makes it possible to risk a few assumptions.
