Prélude l'idée de futur chez les grammairiens grecs
Résumé
This paper presents an overview of the history of the idea of future in the Greek grammarians, from the Alexandrian period to the ninth century. First, it appears that the conception of tense owes much to the philosophers, although it is partly different. It is the case of the present, to which the philosophers deny any reality. In particular, the fact that the future is basically cognitive and philosophical explains why the grammarians do not restrict the idea of future to the morphological future, while the moods, including the infinitive, refer by nature to the future. Finally, one of the pecularities of the Greek grammarians' approach is the fact that they use a system of "kinship" (sungeneia) between tenses and particularly between the future and the aorist, which implies a mirrored conception of past and future, in which the cognitive perspective plays again an essential role.
Cet article présente un panorama de l'histoire de l'idée de futur chez les grammairiens grecs, depuis la période alexandrine jusqu'au neuvième siècle. Il apparaît d'abord que la conception du temps grammatical doit beaucoup aux philosophes, même si elle s'en éloigne sur certains points, comme le présent, auquel certains philosophes dénient toute réalité. Ce statut fondamentalement cognitif et philosophique du futur explique notamment pourquoi les grammairiens ne font pas du futur morphologique l'unique support de l'idée de futur, les modes, y compris l'infinitif, référant par nature au futur. Enfin l'une des particularités de l'approche des grammairiens est de recourir à un système de "parenté" (sungeneia) entre les temps verbaux et ils associent le futur à l'aoriste, dans une sorte de vision en miroir du passé et du futur, où l'aspect cognitif joue à nouveau un rôle essentiel.
