Résumé

As one of the outstanding solid state chemists of our time, Professor Gérard Demazeau -University of Bordeaux, France has made huge scientific contributions to the design and synthesis of novel solid state functional materials, especially, under high pressures. Aside from his many achievements and accolades as a leading materials scientist, he was also a person who worked tirelessly to promote multidisciplinary aspects of solid state chemistry. As a pioneer in the synthesis and studies of solids under high pressures, Professor Demazeau created and headed an internationally respected research group devoted to high pressure research which became the Centre de Ressources Hautes Pressions within the Institut de Chimie de la Matière Condensée de Bordeaux-CNRS- (the former Laboratoire de Chimie du Solide –LCS). With his colleagues and many external international collaborators, Professor Demazeau research has ranged broadly across the field of high-pressure science, including solid state chemistry, materials science, geosciences, biosciences, and environmental sciences. This special issue is dedicated to Professor Demazeau and will encompass the latest research extending the many fields in which he took an interest and had profound influence.
