Majd al-Dīn Hamgar

Viola Allegranzi

Résumé

Majd al-Dīn Hamgar (b. Yazd, 607/1210 - d. Isfahan, 686/1287) was a Persian poet and courtier active in the transition period that immediately followed the Mongol invasion of Iran. Among his patrons were the Salghurids atabegs of Fars and several members of the Juvaynī family, whom he also served as a copyist, calligrapher, advisor and boon-companion. Though his poetic style is mostly inspired by the former Khurasanian tradition, and though panegyric and human love prevail over mystical themes, Majd al dīn’s repertory foreshadows the literary production flourishing in Fars during the 7th/13th and 8th/14th centuries.
