Le vocabulaire de la mer dans quelques sam.hitâ védiques : le cas du lexème arn.ava-
Résumé
This study in lexical semantics is in line with the lexeme arṇavá-, a word meaning "the sea" in early Indo-Aryan. It aims to explore the processes through which words referring to the same referent ("sea, ocean") are synonymous. The corpus of data belongs to the four Vedas and consists of six Vedic samhitas (R.ksaṃhitā, Samaveda saṃhitā, Vājasaneyi saṃhitā, Taittirīya saṃhitā, Atharvaveda saṃhitā according to the śaukana and paippalāda classifications). First are presented the statistic position of arṇavá- in the corpus and its different meanings ; then, the others words with which synonymous relations are patent. Finally, distinctive uses of arṇavá- are studied to conclude that this lexeme is not a semantic doublet but a real synonym of samudrá-, the generic word for the sea in early Indo-Aryan.
