The effective stiffness of a nanoporous rod

Abstract

The article focuses on the analysis of the impact of surface effects on the elastic characteristics of nanoporous rod. It cites the two models of nanomaterials that were considered in the analysis wherein the first model is based on surface stresses and the other one uses the method of the composite materials theory. It was found out that the stiffness of the rod can decrease as the number of pores increases based on the analysis of the longitudinal Young's modulus in a porous rod.
