Caractérisation des innovations environnementales pour la réduction des pesticides en viticulture
Résumé
Vine is a crop particularly dependent on pesticide use. In France, 20% of agricultural pesticides are used in vineyards which represent only 3% of cultivated areas. Grape growing is therefore very concerned by environmental issues and particularly by problems of water quality. Nowadays, grape growers are confronted with an increasing social demand and have to change their practices. The objective of the paper is to show that the practices allowing significant pesticide reduction are environmental innovations and that they have to be apprehended through the evolutionary approach of environmental innovations. First, we define what an environmental innovation is. Then, we make a literature review about the criteria characterizing innovations in literature with illustrations from the issue of pesticide reduction. The main environmental vineyard protection strategies are presented and described from the guidelines of OCDE, which are completed by other criteria necessary to analyze and differentiate these alternatives. Finally, we highlight that the characterization of pesticide reduction as an environmental innovation implies further research in economics about measuring farms' environmental and economic performances, and identifying the determinants of each possible alternative.
