Lifshitz point in the smectic A phases

The triple point where three smectic phases are present (the Sm A 1, the Sm A2 and the Sm à phases) is a Lifshitz point associated with a polarization wave parallel to the layers. We show that interesting dielectric properties may be observed in the vicinity of this Lifshitz point.
