Optical studies of the magnetic phase diagram of MnBr2
Résumé
Manganous bromide is a transparent ionic insulator which exhibits magnetic ordering in zero field at temperatures below circa 2.2 K. Experiments are reported in which optical absorption measurements of internal transitions of the Mn ion are combined with dichroism studies in these same absorption bands to determine the magnetic phase diagram. As for the case of MnCl 2 three regions of magnetic order are found and studied as a function of magnetic field and temperature. The present data are compared to previous neutron diffraction studies and a model of the magnetic ordering is discussed.
