The need for Web legend services

This paper addresses the issue of designing good maps in services oriented architectures. Designing good maps requires a specific expertness that is not embedded in today’s web mapping tools and services. In this paper, we firstly highlight the relevance of cartographic rules in this context. We then present our proposal to integrate this expertness in services oriented architectures like these used for todays on-demand web mapping. This proposal is a work in progress.
