Pirro Ligorio’s exceptional knowledge of the ancient iconography, especially through the examination and collection of coins, carefully drawn in various volumes of his Antichità romane, permitted him to conceive a wide variety of athletes figures for different artistic projects; my paper aims to show that Ligorio’s influence, through different media and centuries, extended far beyond the known achievement
