Scoring of the severity of sperm whale behavioral responses to pulsed and continuous active sonar signals

Résumé

This study investigates how naval sonar affects sperm whales' behavior. In previous work, we showed that controlled exposure experiments (CEEs) of 1-2 kHz pulsed active sonar (PAS) induced costly behavioral responses in whales (e.g. cessation of feeding), similar to anti-predator responses.
