The correspondences between, on one side, André Gide and Romain Rolland, confirmed writers, and, in the other side, Jean Malaquais and Panaït Istrati, Polish and Romanian proletarians, can surprise us: between literary advice, linguistic corrections and political disputes, these correspondences offer a unique vision on the literary creation of the interwar period and a vivid testimony of the great historical moments of this period, such as the relation to the USSR or the World War II.

Les correspondances qu’ont entretenues André Gide et Romain Rolland, écrivains confirmés, avec Jean Malaquais et Panaït Istrati, prolétaires polonais et roumain, ont de quoi surprendre : entre conseils littéraires, corrections linguistiques et disputes politiques, elles offrent une vision unique de la création littéraire de l’entre-deux-guerres ainsi qu’un vif témoignage des grands moments historiques de cette période, comme le rapport à l’U.R.S.S. ou la Seconde Guerre mondiale.
