L’œuvre d’art et l’objet naturel. La problématique extension du concept d’objet esthétique chez Mikel Dufrenne

In this paper, we focus on an article published in 1955 in which the philosopher Mikel Dufrenne changes the extension of the concept of aesthetic object in order to encompass both the work of art and the natural object. We try to demonstrate that this changing modifies the intention of the concept of aesthetic object which, in Phénoménologie de l’expérience esthétique (1953), refers exclusively to the work of art, because an object is “aesthetic” when it expresses the existential attitude or the affective quality of the artist. From now on, an object is aesthetic because it presents itself as “natural”, that is to say as the spontaneous product of its source. From the moment that the natural object becomes an aesthetic object, the question arises to know whether Mikel Dufrenne does not transform the Nature into an artist. We try to highlight the fact that in his article, Mikel Dufrenne humanizes the Nature. He thus prepares the ground for Le Poétique (1963), in which he will accomplish the reverse assimilation, that of naturalizing the human and the artist.
Dans ce texte, nous nous concentrons sur un article publié en 1955 dans lequel le philosophe Mikel Dufrenne modifie l’extension du concept d’objet d’esthétique afin d’englober à la fois l’œuvre d’art et l’objet naturel. Nous essayons de démontrer que ce changement affecte l’intention du concept d’objet esthétique qui, dans Phénoménologie de l’expérience esthétique (1953), renvoie exclusivement à l’œuvre d’art, en ce sens qu’un objet est « esthétique » quand il exprime l’attitude existentielle ou la qualité affective de l’artiste. Dorénavant, un objet est esthétique car il se donne comme « naturel », c’est-à-dire comme le produit spontané de sa source. À partir du moment où l’objet naturel devient un objet esthétique, la question se pose de savoir si Mikel Dufrenne ne transforme pas la Nature en Nature artiste. Nous tentons de mettre en évidence le fait que, dans son article, Mikel Dufrenne en vient à humaniser la nature, préparant ainsi le sol pour Le Poétique (1963), livre dans lequel il accomplira le geste solidaire, celui de naturaliser l’homme et l’artiste.
