Virtual Reality: Definition and Craze

Résumé

The expression virtual reality is an oxymoron, used by marketing to designate a wide range of very different products. In this article, we question the meaning of the term virtual reality and the craze that this technology arouses. We define retransmitted reality, which is a concept that encompasses virtual reality, and we show that the latter presents itself as a sandbox to experiment in safety. Finally, we suggest that the desire to escape reality may partly explain the craze surrounding virtual reality.
