Plastic Flowers
Des fleurs en plastique.
Résumé
Saharan material culture has been ethnographically studied relatively well as is proved by the abundant literature on objects in both nomadic and sedentary contexts. However, the ethnography of objects considered anodyne or futile remains, for its part, under-developed. An example of
this is artificial flowers, the omnipresence of which in houses shows the importance of studying their social uses as a means of investigating perceptions of the relationship to nature. This artifact is also a means of examining the construction of an analytical object/subject while at the
same time revealing the extent to which random events can sometimes guide research.
