Die Diskussion um die Bedeutung des Museums wird im dritten Band von Philosophen, Kunsthistorikern und Literaturwissenschaftlern zum Anlass genommen, den Blick zurück zu den Anfängen der Museumsidee, insbesondere zur Idee des Kunstmuseums, zu lenken. Diese Anfänge sind aber, ebenso wie die Idee der Kunstgeschichte überhaupt, unlösbar mit dem Namen Hegels verknüpft. Vor diesem Hintergrund analysieren die Beiträge des Bandes die Verknüpfung von Musealisierung und Reflexion, die Hegel als konstitutives Merkmal einer modernen Gesellschaft bestimmt hatte.
In the third volume, philosophers, art historians and literary scholars take the discussion about the significance of the museum as an opportunity to look back to the beginnings of the idea of the museum, especially the idea of the art museum. However, these beginnings, just like the idea of art history in general, are inextricably linked to the name of Hegel. Against this background, the contributions in this volume analyse the link between musealisation and reflection, which Hegel had determined to be a constitutive feature of a modern society.
