On the acoustic characteristics on the consonant L in the bilingual speech from the Vidin area

The existence of ℓ in the idiolects of the bilinguals of Vidin area is due to the Romanian foundation of the Vlach dialects. The topic of the present study is the acoustic characteristics of the consonant ℓ in different phonetic positions. The analysis performed on the acoustic characteristics of ℓ reveals that the alveolar lateral approximant ℓ in the idiolects of some bilinguals influences the spectral characteristics of both - the vocals and the consonants - that come in a contact position. The interaction between ℓ and the vocals leads to the extension of the vocal transition duration. A similar result is registered in the contact of ℓ with the consonants where the main articulation place of the contact consonant matters. The farther this place is from the the articulation point of ℓ, the longer the transitions to the neighboring vocals are.
