Within a context of sustainable development, inland waterway transport may expand in the future. In France, inland waterway transport faces a major paradox, since it's poorly used although France has a very long network. Within that scope, this article examines the nature of relationships that the development of this means of transport may have with the various dimensions of public management. This paper highlights the major roles of communication, process management, financial issues and marketing in the revival of inland waterway transport.

Dans le contexte actuel de développement durable, le transport fluvial est amené à intervenir de plus en plus. Or, en France, ce secteur est dans une situation paradoxale, sa part modale restant très faible au regard de l'étendue du réseau. Dans ce contexte, cet article examine comment les différentes dimensions du management public peuvent interagir avec la relance du mode fluvial. Ce travail met en évidence le rôle majeur des dimensions communication, management processuel, financière, et marketing du management public dans la relance du transport fluvial.
