Des pays : Marie-Hélène Lafon, Pierre Jourde

Abstract : Marie-Hélène Lafon, Pierre Jourde: two authors linked by their family origin to the Cantal and whose work is partly devoted to this rural France from which they come. But these works are not wholly received among the inhabitants of the Cantal. Pierre Jourde has been the victim of assaults. Lafon also encountered some hostility: she subsequently took great care to “blur the tracks” and now enjoys a relative immunity. This article reviews two books, whose titles echo each other though nine years apart: Pays perdu by Pierre Jourde (2003) and Les Pays by Marie-Hélène Lafon (2012). It ferrets out the factual, biographical reasons explaining the difference in the reception of each text and compares the biases in the writing and the imaginary.
