Typologies de parcours de prises en charge en protection de l'enfance : quels enjeux pour la qualité de vie ?

Abstract : The aim of the communication is to present first results of a research carried out since 2013. This research is an answer to a research commissioned by the Calvados observatory of children and family and was conducted by students of the University School of Management of Caen. This research has two main aims : firstly to reconstitute the trajectories of children followed by Child welfare services and to highlight the factors which influence these paths in life. The second aim is to assess the quality of child care practices (current part). The research is a longitudinal retrospective study and was based on an analysis of the data from 347 files of children from 11 to 15 years old in foster or residential care on 31st December 2013 (excluding unaccompanied minors), these files were randomly drawn. The statistical treatments carried out (factorial analysis and agglomerative hierarchical clustering) reveal six main clusters of life paths: long-term placement decided by a juvenile court, medium length placement with court decision, medium length home-treatment (educational aid with keeping in the family), diversified courses, short placement with court decision courses and medium-distance home-treatment courses. The results also show that, in addition to the nature of the risk and the characteristics of both parents and children, the first step influences the child welfare services trajectory. These elements, which will be complemented by qualitative research, allow us to reflect on the type of path and the quality of life of the children followed by the child welfare system. Some paths in the constructed typology show a certain instability in the succession of types of care, we then have the right to question their effects, their effectiveness and their repercussions on the child's development.
