Maxillofacial Prosthetics and surface electromyography: Case reports

Résumé

Maxillofacial prosthetics is art and science of artificial rehabilitation of facial bones when structure loss is congenital or developmental. In the latter case, oro-facial cancerology can lead to maxillectomies, mandibulectomies and glossectomies often related to ionizing radiations. These treatments can lead to various functional complications including mandibular kinematic interferences. The maxillofacial specialist faces management of mandibular latero-deviation, limitation of oral aperture but above all copes with prosthodontics guidelines caused by mandibular bone loss. The author want to enhance the use of surface electromyography and electronic recording of mandibular movements in oro-facial re-education and prosthetic treatment of patients with maxillo-mandibular deficiencies.
