Der Aufsatz beschäftigt sich mit Arno Geigers Roman Es geht uns gut, wobei er dessen Verankerung in ein spezifisches Genre aufzeigt. Geigers Text greift auf ganz bestimmte rhetorische Mittel zurück, hauptsächlich die Analepse und die Ellipse, die spiegelbildlich den Umgang der österreichischen Zweiten Republik mit ihrer Vergangenheit charakterisieren. Dabei stützt sich der Autor unter anderem auf intertextuelle Bezugspunkte – vor allem auf den Film Der Hofrat Geiger aus dem Jahr 1947 – und untergräbt damit ironisch das Genre selbst, um ein eher düsteres Bild der Art und Weise, wie Österreich mit dem Vergangenen umgeht, zu liefern.

The article explores Arno Geiger’s novel Es geht uns gut which belongs to the category of the Generationenroman : it shows how rhetorical devices and intertextual references, especially those concerning film, shed a particular light on the past of the Second Austrian Republic. Using analepsis and ellipsis, the novel copies the way in which Austria coped with its past after World War II, and by doing so ridicules the genre of Generationenroman itself. Nevertheless the novel delivers a quite pessimistic view of the way Austria traditionally evokes its past.
Cet article tente de voir à partir de l’ancrage du roman Es geht uns gut d’Arno Geiger dans un certain genre, des procédés rhétoriques utilisés, de certaines références intertextuelles, en particulier filmique, la manière dont Arno Geiger jette un regard sur le passé, sur la seconde République autrichienne. Utilisant majoritairement l’ellipse et l’analepse, il exprime formellement l’attitude générale de la seconde République vis-à-vis de son propre passé, tout en tournant en dérision le genre même dans lequel il s’inscrit, sans pour autant transmettre un message d’un grand optimisme quant aux rapports de l’Autriche avec son passé.
