Analyse VUCA de la dynamique des investissements directs chinois

Abstract : As China moves towards the center stage of the global economy, Chinese companies are seeking new strategic positions and new competitive advantages. Their recent global-and in particular European-expansion elicits new risks, due to the specific characteristics of direct investment originating from emerging markets. In this exploratory study, our hypothesis is that this trend of South-North FDI is representative of the current economic context, punctuated by increased «Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity» (VUCA). Thus our research question is: If the impetus of Chinese Outward Foreign Direct Investment (COFDI) in Europe entails VUCA challenges, which new strategies should be elaborated by European companies? To address this, we first present the global expansion of COFDI, emphasizing its growth and configuration in Europe. Afterwards, by using the VUCA concept as an inductive analysis framework, we examine the particular risks European companies must take into account during decision making. Finally, based on this framework, we propose two series of strategies European companies can adopt when confronted with the influx of COFDI.
