Predicting the behavior of graphite/epoxy laminates under hydrothermal loads

Résumé

The purpose of this article is to determine the effect of moisture concentration on the mechanical behaviour of the elementary ply of a composite laminate. Fibres being considered as insensitive to hydrothermal ageing it was chosen to characterize the evolution of the epoxy matrix Young Modulus (Em) as a function of the moisture concentration (c). A series of tests were performed at several temperatures and moisture contents to determine the mechanical characteristics of an elementary ply (El, Et, nlt and Glt). Then through classical micromechanical models the evolution of Em is obtained by inverse indentification.
