Un surintendant des finances en Champagne : Claude Bouthillier

Abstract : The Superintendent of Finance Claude Bouthillier, in office from 1632 to 1643, greatly increased his personal fortune during his ministry. He invested a large part of this fortune in Champagne by buying in particular the seigniory of Pont-sur-Seine which he made his principal residence outside Paris. The famous architect Pierre Le Muet built there one of the most beautiful castle of the first seventeenth century. This article presents the chronology of land acquisitions in Champagne by Claude Bouthillier and attempts to name the artists who worked for the Superintendent of Finance.
