An Evolving Collaboration - Performer and Composer Approaches to Creating Visual Music

Résumé
This article aims to identify the key factors that contributed to an evolving collaborative practice between a performer (Canham) and a composer (Lopez Charles). Three new works for clarinet, electronics and video, presented as case studies, form the basis of this study. Journals, artifacts including sound recordings of experiments, rehearsals, performance documentation and joint reflection will allow the researchers to describe and reflect upon the evolution of their collaborative practice as it unfolded. Nicole Canham, clarinetist, is a PhD candidate at Queensland University (Australia), researcher in residence at the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme, Paris Nord, working in the area of qualitative research methods applied to understanding aspects of musical practice. Carlos Lopez is a PhD candidate at Paris VIII University, composer and musicologist who specialises in composition with new technologies.
Cet article vise à identifier les facteurs clés qui ont contribué à l'évolution de la pratique collaborative entre un artiste (Canham) et un compositeur (Lopez Charles). Trois nouvelles œuvres pour clarinette, électronique et vidéo, présentées sous forme d'études de cas, constituent la base de cette étude.
