THE HISTORY OF MATHEMATICS AS A RESOURCE FOR TEACHING GEOMETRIC CONCEPTS

1 Trabalho pedagógico e suas repercussões no ensino de física e no ensino de matemática.

This article is part of a master’s thesis whose aim is examining the possibility of using the History of Mathematics as a resource for teaching geometric concepts. It presents a brief historic account on the subjects of Mathematics, Geometry, on the History of Mathematics, even in textbooks, and some aspects about the Theorem of Thales. These were necessary for the research carried out with eight-graders, which used the methodology of problem solving to calculate the height of some buildings that stand out in the community where the school is located. The methodology used was the bibliographic review and the historiographical analysis. It was concluded that the History of Mathematics, as a teaching resource, contributes to the educational activity, through the construction and understanding of mathematical concepts.

O artigo apresenta parte de uma dissertação de mestrado cujo objetivo foi apreender possibilidades da História da Matemática como recurso didático-pedagógico para o ensino e a aprendizagem de conceitos geométricos. Nele consta um breve resgate histórico da disciplina de Matemática no Brasil, da Geometria, da História da Matemática, inclusive nos Livros Didáticos e alguns aspectos do Teorema de Tales. Esses foram necessários para realizar uma pesquisa junto a alunos de oitava série do Ensino Fundamental, que utilizou a metodologia de resolução de problemas para calcular alturas de alguns prédios que se destacam na comunidade na qual a escola está inserida, em função da altura em comparação com as residências locais. A metodologia foi a de revisão bibliográfica e análise historiográfica. Concluiu-se disso que a História da Matemática, como recurso didático, qualifica a ação educativa, com a construção e compreensão de conceitos matemáticos.
