Paul Claudel, in the French literary landscape, can be considered as the archetypal figure of the catholic poet. Man of faith, he dedicated his life and especially his poetic work, in the glorification of God and in the communication of his merry experience of the conversion. But behind this image of man of the Church accomplished and full of dexterity, takes place a real internal conflict, in which the Christian exemplary nature it posts, is subjected to the ceaseless assaults of the lowest instincts. Claudel following the example of Baudelaire or of Rimbaud, is pulled at the same time by the desire of God and by those some flesh. His poetry finds all its greatness in the depth of this dynamics .

Paul Claudel, dans le paysage littéraire français, peut être considéré comme la figure archétypale du poète catholique. Homme de foi, il a consacré sa vie et surtout son oeuvre poétique, à la glorification de Dieu et à la communication de sa joyeuse expérience de la conversion. Mais derrière cette image d'homme d'église accompli et plein de dextérité, se joue un véritable conflit intérieur, dans lequel l'exemplarité chrétienne qu'il affiche, est soumise aux assauts incessants des instincts les plus bas. Claudel à l'instar d'un Baudelaire ou d'un Rimbaud, est tiraillé à la fois par le désir de Dieu et par ceux de la chair. Sa poésie trouve toute sa grandeur dans la profondeur de cette dynamique.
