ABSTRACT Promoting health of people with intellectual disabilities is not easy. The challenge is however important, because their life expectancy is significantly lower than the general population's. In an action research, we conducted trainings in services welcoming these people. With the cooperation of carers, the goal was to teach them to become actors of their health through the establishment of microchallenges they chose themselves. This principle refers to the concept of self-determination. We present this project and an evaluation tool designed to confirm that adopted behaviors are self-determined and to appreciate and understand the role of this theory in the maintenance of behaviors and attitudes of beneficiaries towards their health.
