Raman cooling of spin-polarized cesium atoms in a crossed dipole trap
Résumé
We describe a Raman cooling scheme that allows for the simultaneous polarization and cooling of cesium atoms. Using efficient chirped Raman pulses, cesium atoms confined in a red-detuned crossed dipole trap are 80 % polarized and cooled to a temperature of 2.4 µK. After cooling, the phase-space density reaches 10^{−3} . We have strong evidence that this value is limited by multiple photon scattering within the atomic cloud.
