PREDICATS STATIFS ET TEMPORALITE : L'EXEMPLE DES PREDICATS D'AGE

This paper discusses the relationship between state predicates and temporality. Building on a set of words, little studied in French (bébé, enfant, adolescent, adulte, vieillard), we will reinvest the temporal typology of predicates (Martin, 2008). The aim will be not only to bring some additional elements, but also to show that the temporal criterion is insufficient to describe the complexity of these predicates. In particular, their ability to play a circumstantial role requires a new classification and implies to take into account the relationship between the property denoted by the predicate and its instantiation time.

Este artículo trata de la relación entre predicaciones de estado y la temporalidad. Nos basaremos en un conjunto de palabras muy poco estudiadas en francés (bébé, enfant, adolescent, adulte, vieillard) para repasar la tipología temporal de las predicaciones (Martin, 2008). El objetivo será no sólo aportar algunos elementos complementarios sino, sobre todo, dar cuenta de que el criterio temporal no basta para describir la complejidad de estas predicaciones. Su capacidad para asumir, por ejemplo, un papel circunstancial nos permitirá modificar dicha tipología e incluir la relación entre la propiedad denotada por la predicación y su duración de instanciación.
