L'évaluation de l'aphasie chez le bilingue : une étude de cas
Résumé
The aim of this article is to draw attention to the necessity of taking into account the bilingualism of many aphasic patients. For practical reasons, aphasia assessment and rehabilitation are generally conducted in the hospital's language. However, research in bilingual aphasia has shown that the languages of a bilingual are not always recovered in the same way. Among the factors mentioned to account for such differences are affective reasons. Consequently, for practical and ethical reasons, bilingual patients should be given the possibility of a complete assessment of their linguistic skills. Such an assessment, however, has to be done with an adequate test designed for the comparison of the patient's linguistic skills. We will illustrate the use of such a test, the BAT (bilingual aphasia test) with case study of a German-French bilingual suffering from global aphasia.
