La Vierge Marie dans la littérature française:entre foi et littérature
Résumé
This book aims at studying the representations that have been given of the Holy Virgin Mary in French literature, from the origins to now. Whatever the periods and the genres, the historical contexts, her figure has marked lyrical poetry, drama and even fiction as she constitutes an idealized model of the woman. At the end of the XIXth century, she embodied a means to escape naturalism through a spiritual way. Why is she still inspiring many XXth- and XXIth-century poets who sing her in a disenchanted world against all the odds? Feminine figure of God, "both pure and carnal" (Peguy), mother of the Word incarnate, silent and meditative, she reminds of the initial and forgotten sacred character of the poets' language.
