Taking as a starting point Bakhtine's definition of speech genres, we'll analyse the characteristics of identity construction in French linguist's speech (written and oral). We'll concentrate on the personal pronouns as the main mark of expressing subjectivity, trying to prove that genre and utterance context have a high influence on the speech identity construction process. Analysing the relation between the three persons (the person who speaks, the person to whom you speak and the object you speak about) in the French linguists' speech we'll conclude that the author's identity finds specific ways of expression and defines itself via the opposition language person – speech person.
