It is no coincidence that the novel Autobiografia (2019), by José Luís Peixoto, articulates the reflection on the (auto)biographical genre with the intertextual phenomenon. In fact, they both raise the question of the author's ambiguous identity in a marked way. While writing his autobiography (or someone else’s biography, which paradoxically does not prevent from speaking about oneself), evoking his literary career, the writer cannot fail to mention the authors and books that shaped his work and, to a certain point, his identity. Intertextuality therefore represents the fusion of “I” and otherness. In addition, elements from a fiction have the ability to pass from one work to another, transgressing the boundaries of the narrative, acquiring new meanings, gaining autonomy and revealing hidden meanings of the work that contains them. These elements also sometimes have the capacity to populate reality through metalepsis that reveal the porosity between reality and fiction. Therefore, the intertextuality, shown in the novel by José Luís Peixoto, refers to the idea of the unstoppable expansion of fiction. This process is increasingly visible in contemporary literature, in an unprecedented context of wide media coverage and circulation of literary works.
Não por acaso o romance Autobiografia (2019), de José Luís Peixoto, articula a reflexão sobre o género (auto)biográfico com o fenómeno intertextual. Com efeito, ambos colocam de forma incisiva a questão da identidade ambígua do autor. Ao escrever a sua autobiografia (ou a biografia de outrem, o que paradoxalmente não impede de falar de si próprio), evocando a sua carreira literária, o escritor não pode deixar de referir os autores e livros que moldaram a sua obra e, até certo ponto, a sua identidade. A intertextualidade representa assim a fusão do “eu” e da alteridade. Além disso, os elementos oriundos de uma ficção têm a capacidade de passar de uma obra para a outra, transgredindo as fronteiras da narrativa, adquirindo novos sentidos, ganhando autonomia e revelando sentidos velados da obra que os contém. Esses elementos têm também, por vezes, a capacidade de povoar o real, através de metalepses que revelam a porosidade entre o real e a ficção. Assim sendo, a intertextualidade, ostentada no romance de José Luís Peixoto, reenvia para a ideia de expansão irrefreável da ficção. Esse processo é cada vez mais nítido na literatura contemporânea, num contexto inédito de ampla mediatização e circulação das obras literárias.
