COEXISTENCE OF SUPERCONDUCTIVITY AND MAGNETISM IN EuxLa1-x

Abstract

Mössbauer-effect measurements have been performed on the alloy system EuxLa1-x showing a complete magnetic ordering of the Eu-ions. The magnetic ordering temperature was determined from the temperature dependence of the Eu-hyperfine fields. The first results (Phys. Rev. Lett. 30 (1973) 1132) were now extended to lower concentrations. Between 0.3 and 1.2 at % Eu a linear dependence of the magnetic ordering temperature on the Euconcentration was observed with a gradient of 0.6 K/at %. Below and above the magnetic ordering temperature large line broadening was observed. The concentration dependence of the superconducting transition temperature showed an enhancement of the critical concentration, compared with the result of Abrikosov-Gorkov, very similar to the result in GdxLa1-x-system, measured by Hein et al. (Phys. Rev. Lett. 2 (1959) 500).
