From The Schuman Plan to the European Political Community: when Europe promised to be federalist (1950-1954). The story of a misunderstanding. The announcement of the Schuman Plan in May 1950 seems to change the nature of the work of integration defenders, who see the initiative of France as a "divine surprise": if this proposal launched an integration process leading forward to the birth of the European State as expected? Within the federalist camp, this announcement causes a significant change of tactics: to idealist and very concerned about doctrinal issues since the inception of the movement, it becomes political and militant as soon as anticommunism rhymes with European construction and where the quest money goes more to Washington.
L'annonce du Plan Schuman en mai 1950 semble changer la nature de l'action des défenseurs de l'intégration, qui voient dans l'initiative de la France une " divine surprise " : et si cette proposition lançait un processus d'intégration aboutissant à terme à la naissance de l'Etat européen tant espéré ? Au sein du camp fédéraliste, cette annonce entraîne un virage important de la tactique à suivre : idéaliste et très préoccupée de questions doctrinales depuis la création du mouvement, elle devient politique et militante dès le moment où anticommunisme rime avec construction européenne et où la quête de l'argent nécessaire à la cause passe de plus en plus par Washington.
