Kapalikas
Résumé
This entry in Brill's Encyclopedia of Hinduism gives an account of what we know about the pre-tantric sect of Kapalikas, from about the 6th century CE, according to tantric and literary sources and inscriptions. In addition of a summary of the existing literature on the subject, it gives a new interpretation of the only inscription known to relate their main precepts. Furthermore, Kapalika elements from an unedited early tantric scripture, the Brahmayamala, are also included and analysed.
