Rather than a set of disparate tools, quality approach is increasingly perceived as a control process aimed at establishing logics of knowledge building and sharing. This paper proposed an assessment of how the quality approach could represent a favorable knowledge creating context. This issue has drawn attention in the literature. However, most of the related research lacks empirical evidence. Several theoretical statements have been tested out through an empirical survey of 34 automotive firms.

Plutôt qu'une série d'outils isolés, la démarche qualité est appréhendée comme un système de contrôle, qui suscite, au sein de l'entreprise, des logiques de construction et de partage des connaissances. La présente communication s'avise à voir si la démarche qualité peut représenter un contexte propice à la gestion des connaissances. Cette question a été fréquemment évoquée par la communauté académique et professionnelle, mais peu travaux empiriques se sont intéressés aux modalités de son opérationnalisation. Les différentes affirmations théoriques présentées, dans un premier temps, ont été confrontées aux faits issus d'un échantillon de 34 entreprises automobiles.
