Les matériaux vitreux pour l'optique infrarouge

Résumé

Remarkable progress has been recently achieved in infrared optic. Its applications are numerous: medecine, surgery, telecommunications, infrared imaging, military applications, pyrometry, sensors. However there is a lack of transmitting materials. The mono and polycristalline materials at first considered are not perfect. Glassy materials could present simultaneously infrared transparency and better mechanical properties (forming and fiber-drawing abilities, mechanical strength...). Numerous studies have been undertaken on the basis of a theoretical approach taking into account the optical properties in the infrared domain and the feasibility of the glass. Some optical characteristics of the proposed materials are listed (heavy oxyde glasses, halogenide, chalcogenide and mixed glasses). As a general rule these characteristics, especially the attenuation, are far from their theoretical limits. Therefore a promising future can be expected for these glasses.
