We give a short overview of stochastic problems occurring in neuroscience, of typical questions arising in these problems, and of techniques available for their analysis. These notes are part of the proceedings of the mini-workshop "Dynamics of Stochastic Systems and their Approximation" held in Oberwolfach, August 21-27, 2011.
