Rethinking the relationship Large technical system - Individual - Mobility to better understand the relationship to space.

Résumé
The proposal to rethink the relationship Large technical system - Individual - Mobility is based on the need to reopen the discussion on the relationship between individuals and technical networks. The rise of environmental issues invites this, with mobility becoming an unavoidable field of research. Most often, these relations between individuals and large technical systems are presented to be technically neutral and dictated by the functionality, in other words, large technical systems that have no effect on users who would have recourse to them following a practical need to cross space. Twenty years of research in geography and land use planning, as a planning consultant and then as a teacher-researcher, have made it possible to accumulate elements that go back to these characteristics. This habilitation thesis, present the conceptual and methodological frameworks and the results obtained. The analyses lead us to argue that the use of large technical systems provides individuals with an increased body from which they develop geographical know-how. Large technical systems are therefore no longer confined to being tools for mobility. It is then necessary to try to better define the way in which they participate in the construction of the relation to space.
La proposition de repenser la relation Réseau technique – Individu - Mobilité se fonde sur la nécessité de réouvrir la discussion concernant les rapports entre les individus et les réseaux techniques. La montée en puissance des problématiques environnementales y invite, la mobilité en devenant un objet de recherche incontournable. Le plus souvent ces rapports entre individus et réseaux techniques apparaissent comme relevant de la neutralité technique et dictés par la fonctionnalité, en d’autres termes, des réseaux techniques sans effets sur des usagers qui, y auraient recours suite à un besoin pratique de traverser l’espace. Une vingtaine d’années de recherche en géographie et aménagement, en tant que conseil en aménagement puis enseignante-chercheuse, ont permis d’accumuler des éléments revenant sur ces caractéristiques. Dans ce volume d’HDR, nous présentons les cadres conceptuel et méthodologique, les résultats obtenus. Les analyses conduisent à avancer que le recours aux réseaux techniques dote les individus d’un corps augmenté à partir duquel ils développent un savoir-faire géographique. Les réseaux techniques ne sont dès lors plus cantonnés à être des outils de mobilité. Il faut alors chercher à mieux cerner la manière dont ils participent à la construction de la relation à l’espace.
