Circulation sociale des pratiques numériques juvéniles et genèse instrumentale

Abstract : If the youth is just a word, what do juvenile digital practices stand for? In this doctoral research work, our interest focuses on digital practices, considered as socialized and instrumented, of French young people aged 11 to 18. Therefore, the general theme of this research is digital appropriation, which manifests itself through juvenile practices. Although access to digital is massive for young people through their equipment, the appropriation by all is not always guaranteed. In fact, studies on digital uses and practices show heterogeneity in their behavior: practices are restricted to users (recreational for example), while others are more common (the practices of social networks among others). To understand this heterogeneity, this work applies in particular to understand the forms of construction and stabilization of digital practices that result from an appropriation by young people (individually and between peers) through the proposal of social circulation of practices. On the basis of two case studies, at a high school of the academy of Poitiers (from 2015 to 2017) and at two institutions of the academy of Caen (from 2015 to 2016), the social dimension of the instrumental genesis is apprehended through a framework of analysis of traces, interviews and a questionnaire. The main results obtained are of different types: - methodological, with a conceptual model for identifying digital practices (homogeneous in some respects, heterogeneous in others); - comprehensive, with indications of the way juvenile digital practices circulate (mainly in contexts chosen by young people, outside the school framing); - applied, with lessons from these contributions on the digital appropriation of young people (in particular with the highlighting of the central role of certain young people within social groups).
