HABITER L'ENVIRONNEMENT POUR UNE GÉOGRAPHIE SOCIALE ENVIRONNEMENTALE : NATURE, PAYSAGE, RISQUE VOLUME 1 : POSITIONNEMENT & PROJET DE RECHERCHE

Abstract : Why are there different forms of environmental appropriation? What is the territorial reflection of the relationship between society and the environment? The study of representations of "nature" is one of the keys to understanding land planning and ways of living. Environmental social geography is based on the unravelling of power relations at work in the management and "government" of environmental issues in contemporary societies and on grounded scientific approach. Apparent paradoxes characterize individuals' relationships with the environment, both in terms of natural spaces and landscapes and so-called natural risks. They result from ways of living in the environment and from social perceptions of nature and its management, which vary according to whether it is idealized, tamed or rejected - successively or simultaneously. Mixed methods, both qualitative and quantitative, and anchored, including participatory approaches, are fundamental to the geographical study of ways of living in the environment, particularly facing the requirement to adapt to climate change.
