Comportement magnéto-mécanique des matériaux magnétiques

Abstract : The issue of this study focuses on two points in the behaviour of magnetic materials. The first is the effect of mechanical stress on the magnetic behaviour. The second point is the study of deformation of ma- terials submitted to a magnetic field. These two phenomena are characteristic of the magneto-mechanical coupling. The goal is to develop models able to simulate the coupling in all its complexity, in order to improve processes and materials, and, finally, the performance of electrical machines. It is the result of about a decade of research including eight spent in LMT-Cachan. It is trying to achieve a synthesis of different own studies, Master and PhD Theses that I had to be framed on the magneto- mechanical couplings. This document is divided into five chapters. The first is describing the frame of this study together with a brief description of the magneto-elastic behaviour, from a macroscopic to a microscopic point of view. The second concerns experimental aspects: materials, methods for measuring magnetic and magnetostrictive behaviours, and mechanical uniaxial and multiaxial testings are detailed. The third chapter is devoted to the description of the modelling of the magneto-elastic behaviour. It is involving three scales: the domain, the single crystal, and the polycristal scales. Comparisons between modelling and experimental results provide positive outcomes regarding massive materials. For the sheet format, comparisons highlight some weaknesses in the model that require the consideration of anisotropies macroscopic effects, in particular the establishment of an initial configuration. In the fourth chapter, we provide the key elements useful for modelling the influence of plasticity on the magneto-mechanical behaviour using the multi-scale mo- del: plasticity is introduced through a state of residual stress state determined from a microcrystalline plasticity model. The final chapter is devoted to presenting the main prospects for works associated with magnetomechanical couplings: they concern the NDT applications and modelling of the magnetic losses for the optimization of manufacturing processes.
