Au coeur de la formation : l’apprenant : Une recherche-action sur l’apprentissage de l’anglais en milieu professionnel

Abstract : This action research project studies individualised English learning in an inhouse company training programme. Does instructional design favour learning? Can in-depth personal interviews render the learning process more learner centered? With what results? How can individual differences (particularly cognitive, motivational and affective factors) be "managed" in the best interests of learners and their company? A large, "polytheistic" theoretical base provides the framework for a global, systemic approach to training, which pays personal attention to each trainee. Sixteen months were spent in a French company training 263 learners. Thirty of them were followed closely, from a pre-training interview, through the learning process to a final validation. Changes in trainees’ proficiency in English, as well as in their approach to learning (in terms of cognitive, motivational and affective factors) were monitored. The results suggest that individual differences can be used to facilitate language learning.
