On choosing a proper basis for determining structures of quasicrystals

The diffraction pattern of quasicrystals can be misindexed in cases of decorated hyperlattices (more than one hyperspace atomic motif per a unit cell). The misindexing is fatal for proper determination of the atomic motifs. This warning is illustrated by a pedagogical 1D example and a more realistic 2D example, which might be related to the decagonal AINiCo alloy.
