Abstract : The band transport model predicts the build-up of the photorefractive effect by a picosecond pulse. An experiment has been performed the emphasizes the unique role of the diffusion process : In crystals such as BSO, where the period of the photorefractive grating may be made smaller than the diffusion length of the charge carriers.
